So in past generations, mlp ponies have been born with their cutie marks, but in FiM they gain their cutie marks later after they realize their true talent. That's been one of the things I love about FiM. But some people think it's confusing since traditionally a pony's name matches their cutie marks. What are your thoughts?

I think it's a great idea that ponies have to discover their cutie marks. It's kind like how humans go through purity and during time we figure out who we are.

I agree that it's so much better than beIng born with one because what if you didn't like the cutie mark you were born with? You couldn't change it but would be stuck with it the rest of your life and that could be pretty horrible because what if you were like a ditch digger pony?

The thing I dont understand is do ponies really have to live by their cutie marks? What if they enjoy doing two things and they're really good at both. Twilight is great at magic and a bookworm. She can easily become a teacher.

Then I'm guessing they go with those two talents. Like If you play guitar and sing, it would be a guitar and microphone. One picture for two related talents.
